What is thanksgiving?

According to the internet.

In 1621 Plymouth colonists and wampanoag Indians came together as one.

To share a feast under the autumn Sun.

Unfortunately I know they are wrong

Thanks giving.

Firstly let me start by explaining that without the giving, there would be no thanks.

So let’s start from the real Genesis of this story.

Jeremiah 31:3

I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.

Lamentations 3:23

Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin fresh every morning.

John 3:16

For God so loved the World that HE GAVE His only Son.

John 19:17-18

Carrying the cross he went to the Palace of the Skull (Golgotha)

John 19:30

When Jesus had tasted it, He said it is finished.

Now that I’ve expounded on it’s definition, I’d like to pose a question.

I know most of the time we ask WHAT are you thankful for?

But today let me interrupt that thought process.

Place a different type of exam in session.

WHY are you giving thanks?

I know He picked you up and turned you around but why did He do it?

I know He placed food on your table, prepared a feast before your enemies, but Why did He do it?

I know He healed your heart, made you brand new, But tell me Why did He do it?

Like I said in the beginning there would be no Thanks without giving

So let’s start from the real Genesis of this story.

A few “why’s” for this season we’re in.

El Shaddai, Lord God Almighty.

El Elyon, The Most High God.

Adonai, Lord, Master.

Yahweh, Lord, Jehovah.

Jehovah-Raah, the Lord My Shepherd.

Jehovah Nissi, the Lord My Banner.

Jehovah Rapha, the Lord that heals.

Jehovah Shammah, the Lord is There.

Jehovah Mekoddishkem, The Lord who sanctified you.

El Olam, The Everlasting God.

Elohim, God.

Jehovah Jireh.

Jehovah Shalom, the Lord is Peace.

Jehovah sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts.

Abba Father!

He is the “why’ for thanksgiving, not just today but every second, every minute, every hour of each day!
