What is Christianity and Who Is Christ

Lesson Objective: The objective of this lesson is to provide a basis or foundation for the understanding of Christianity and a fundamental review of who is Jesus Christ.

A. Definition of Christianity-
• a monotheistic system of beliefs and practices based on the Old Testament and the teachings of Jesus as embodied in the New Testament
• Christendom: the collective body of Christians throughout the world and history (found predominantly in Europe and the Americas and Australia);
B. Christianity is based on two major principles
1. There is only one God and he is a living God Exodus 20:2-5
2. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he is an example for all Christians Matthew 16:13-16
3. Christians – the simple definition is one who strives to live like Christ or people of Christ
