(Parable of the lame man at the pool of Bethsaida)
God’s Love meeting us in the person of Jesus at the time and place of our needs.
A- BE WELL (Verse 1-9) = now
God desires for us to be well so we may fully receive and enjoy all that He has in store for us through the Cross as John 10-10, said He came that we may Have life in Abundance. And we have to come to His light to receive it all, Psalm 119:130 makes it clear The entrance of His words Gives Light. In His light everything become clear and we can see where we are and where we are going.
To be well there are 4 things we have to look at:
Our place: the pool. The Pool represents the church, the place of healing where people flock to God’s presence. Jesus is going to meet us there. So, we are right where we’re supposed to be, just like the lame man. We shall always be ready, our heart and mind to meet Him, with expectation and confidence. (Jeremiah 29:13. Hebrews 4:16)
2 types of people were present by the pool, those who are ready to jump and get their blessing and those with excuses who stayed the same: which one are we? Matthew 11:12, says The kingdom suffers violence and the violent are taking it by force, let’s not waste our time in God’s presence and let’s be sure of what we came for.
Our condition: are you well? What is aching or worse immobilizing you to live a life of victory? (Matthew 11:28 = Jesus came for all who are heavy burdened, He came to make all of us more than a conqueror Romans 8:37)
Do not nurse your wound or find excuses for your sins aka “weaknesses”, whatever is paralyzing your life, it doesn’t matter to God. This is a lame man for 38 years, He was unable to do anything, or live a complete fulfilled life because of His condition. What is the disease that prevents us from fully and actively operating in our Kingdom victory: disappointment? Unfulfilled expectation? Hurt? Pain? Our Past? Insecurities? Aspiration? Our stubbornness or Pride? And we have a fleshly compromised “good excuses” for them all. -What if our salvation/validation is tied up in this infirmity? Things we don’t want to let go, are keeping us from our victory, our destiny. It steals our peace, opportunity, life, joy, limits ourselves and limits God.
Our problem: excuses: Excuses are bondage but Christ is Freedom. Don’t hide but surrender 2 Cor. 3:17 – John 8:32 – John 8:36 – The reason why we do not receive healing and – related to that – breakthrough is because we don’t trust God truly (James 1:6) that he is capable, anytime we come to His Sanctuary. We must have faith (Hebrews 11:1)
Jesus knows already what He is going to do for us as He is coming, and before we even ask (John 6:5-6) and our condition, explanation will not affect His decision, or His love for us. In fact our hurt and our pain will even draw Him closer to us Romans 5:20. He said He came to save those who are lost (Luke 19:10), to heal the sick and call the sinners unto Him (Mark 2:17). And His strength is made perfect in our weaknesses.
The Lame man’s explanation represents all “valid excuses” we believe are reasons why we cannot make it with God, “Because…. We say”, BUT it is time to end the excuses and to humbly surrender. Our Excuses oppose GOD’s truth to change and set us free and instead make us a stagnant, powerless Christian in a certain area that if not dealt with- through our obedience to God’s call through the Holy spirit – will keep us defeated and miserable all our lives.
Our SOLUTION: Do you want to get well? Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, acknowledge God in all our ways, and He shall direct thy path.”
Get up: Receive Faith – Obey. Faith without deed is dead
Pick up your mat. Receive forgiveness – You are free. The mat represents the lies (Excuses) you’ve leaned on for so long that has accommodated your paralysis. You pick it up, to get rid of it, for you don’t need to lean on nothing else anymore but Jesus.
Walk: You’re blessed to live a life of victory. Now you have been activated. Have faith, be obedient and act as Jesus commanded you to. Take possession of your victory and walk in and towards your destiny. He makes all things new (2 Corinthians 5:17) and He will restore all the years (38years…) the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25), as He abides in you and you continue to abide in Him.(John 15:4 – John 3:16).
ACCEPT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. – SURRENDER THE PROBLEM – BELIEVE JESUS IS YOUR HEALER AND HE IS MORE THAN ABLE – GET UP IN FAITH – PICK UP YOUR MAT IN OBEDIANCE – WALK IN VICTORY.
B- BE VIGILANT (Verse 10-13) = after
Temptation: The enemy will try to stop with Law what Jesus has accomplished, through His life and sacrifice. Col. 2:13-15. He’ll try to lead you to question God, God’s words, and Your Faith? If He succeeds He’ll be able to bring you back, but the word of God says it is for freedom that He sets us free so we must be vigilant not to lose it. Galatians 5:1.
Verse 12-13: Those who accept and receive Jesus will see Him but the carnal and legalistic won’t. (Matthew 5:8) “The Jews asks, who told you to pick your mat on a Sabbath? But at that time Jesus already disappeared among the crowds.”
How to respond: Respond with the scripture, as Jesus said when tempted by the enemy in Matthew 4:1-11, “it is written…”. And we all know that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the words of our testimonies. (Revelation 12; 11 ). So make sure you know your rights which are in God’s words.
C- BE IN HIS PRESENCE ALWAYS (Verse 14-15)= the long run
Jesus found Him at the Temple. After we were made whole the only place that offers us safety, protection, blessings is in God’s presence Psalm 91. We should keep on seeking Him and His Kingdom Matthew 6:33. Wandering away from God’s presence will expose us to the enemy 1 peter 5:8 and will make us victim of a worst condition as He mentioned in verse 15, and supported by Matthew 12:43-45, “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”.
